ARTIST STATEMENT
My mixed media collage shows my interest in identity, nature and people in their isolation or connection.
I am interested in process art which is to create art as if from a dream and trust the symbols to tell a story of their own. I am interested in “the other” or “outside” view and choose abstraction so that there is no one set meaning. The collage can be an “open window to bring in fresh air”. In my work as both a visual artist and a therapist, it’s the individual voice and the merging of all our meanings that makes art an important vehicle to understand our personal archetypes and consciousness.
Texture is another way to view the world. Through the layering, varying surfaces, and nuances of images unfolding, I find a fascination with what is revealed and what is concealed.
Most collages sizes vary but tend to be small as the artist thinks of them as little jewels. Size available upon request.

Your collages are beautiful. I have done some in Art therapy but I think I need more practice now that I see yours.

I’m happy you like my collages. I guess they could be called mixed media because I paint and draw some and never copy from magazines or any other art. I feel art belongs to the artist and wouldn’t want to copy and call that kind of found art my professional art. Of course, for folks who do collaging for fun or for goal setting can do what works for them. I’ve done that kind of collaging with classes when I’ve taught Writing as Spiritual Practice. I ask the participants to collage the second day and write about what they have done in a free style way. I was talking before of the labeling of what is fine art vs art for self.
As for art therapy, It is helpful once the client has done some attachment theory work. Or, even at the same time. I’m a big fan of whatever works. I used hypnotherapy and hypnosis in this way and spiritual direction too. I bring a collection of skills to the client and use what is in their value system and discuss with them what would help. I feel to ask is respectful of each person. I wish more doctors did this, give the patience more choice and knowledge, if appropriate.
PTSD is so multi-facteted and a vary of methods is usually the answer. What are the various methodologies your therapist(s) use? It is so hard to live with P”TSD and to be able to write about it for other folks is wonderful.
You write well and I enjoy editing your work.
With PTSD inner child healing is the way to go. I have been witness to clients getting better and being able to live without much anxiety. (The more natural amount that keeps us safe.)
